29: 11 Homestead

Jeremiah 29:11

The Land

The land is the foundation of everything else we do. Before you can garden, build, or raise animals, you have to understand what you’re working with — and then make it work better than you found it. That’s an ongoing project, not a one-time task.

The Land section covers how we manage and improve our property over time: the equipment we run, the decisions we’ve made, and what we’ve learned about working with land instead of against it.

Tractor Work

We run a compact utility tractor as our primary workhorse — brush hogging, grading, moving material, drilling fence posts, and a dozen other jobs it handles better than anything else. We cover implement selection, operation tips, and the specific tasks we’ve worked through on our property.

Property Management

Brush control, invasive species, pasture health, drainage, erosion — land management is a long game. We document what we’re dealing with and how we’re handling it, including what’s worked and what’s taken multiple attempts to get right.

Infrastructure

Fencing, gates, culverts, gravel roads, outbuilding pads, water lines — the infrastructure work that makes a property functional. Most of it isn’t glamorous, but it’s the stuff that matters most when you need it. We cover our projects in detail so you can apply the same thinking to your situation.

Long-Term Improvements

We’re playing the long game with this property. Some of what we’re doing won’t pay off for years — tree plantings, soil improvement, permanent pasture establishment. We document it anyway because the process matters as much as the outcome.
